Is there a perfect (free) anti-virus and firewall protection?

For a long time I was ESET fan and sticked to their ESET Security Suite. But, I wanted to explore some more and switched over to Bitdefender Total Security. Few days ago I've had enough of it and decided it was the right time to move on and explore further beyond.

How to automatically close various Windows application's dialogs

Recently I started to search for a program (application) which would help me to nicely and quietly get rid of certain dialogs produced by free versions of certain Windows applications. I'll stay low this time and not explicitly name those applications - they're yours to discover ,-). So here is a quick review of what I've found and how they work. Of course that free versions are preferred over paid ones, so I'll start with them. And just one note before I continue - this post's main focus is NOT about closing various Internet browser's windows opened by various ads, but could be used it this manner if you configure them properly.

How to get rid of those annoying web page ads (for free)

One of the most annoying things nowadays on the Web pages are ads of all kinds shapes and forms (well at least for me). They've evolved and mutated from very beginning of the Web just to get as much possible of our attention (and possibly money of our pockets). But, still they're not unbeatable ...

How to manage Firefox memory appetite (improve memory usage)

If you're Firefox fan just like me, and like to keep 101 tabs open all the time, you probably noticed - no matter even if you have 8GB or more RAM on your super-duper PC how Firefox tends to eat up more than 1GB of it very easily, even the newest versions with all the memory reduction techniques implemented.

Another cool free Windows file copy handler replacement

Since copying and moving files in any operating system therefore in Windows as well represent basic operations,  there is always a need to make it more comfortable. All of you irritated by limited features and speed of Windows default copy tool will understand what I'm talking about here. If you're not using any file management tools and still stick to default Windows copy tool, you might as well start thinking about replacing it with a much better alternatives. I've already mentioned one of them - TeraCopy in one of my previous posts, but here I'll be presenting a new one called UltraCopier.

What are DNS servers, why and what to change them to

I've planned to write about Domain Name System or just DNS for a while now, so I figured the time has come to finally do it as well. If you're reading this post than you probably know what DNS is or at least what it stands for. Idea of this post is not to go into technical details of DNS as there are more than enough resources which cover that particular topic, but if you're into that you might want to take a look at DNS@Wikipedia or DNS@ibiblio. Here I'll just cover the basics of DNS as well what is in it for you if you decide to change it.

How to restore classic menu in Office 2007-2010

You perceive Office 2007/2010 as a useful utility (or just eventually got used to it as time passed by), but there was/is (but hopefully won't be much longer) just a little thing you never got used to - new look of menu, introduced with Office 2007. New menu definitely from designer's point of view looks very nice, but from my (user) side I just miss an easy and intuitive way of locating commands.

How to keep your privacy - security - anonymity while searching the Internet

Maybe some of you used, some might even have heard or on the other hand have never heard of Scroogle and what it actually was. If you have never heard of it feel free to read this and find out more. But, its no news that Scroogle is gone for some time now, but hey was it really the only search engine that was trying to protect user's privacy? Even before Scroogle was shut down completely, due to its very often inaccessibility I started to search around for new "secure"search engines that would be able to provide me at least some level of privacy.

Problem with Dell, nVidia drivers and Firefox Toolbar

There was/is an issue that was quite irritating to me and I did a lot of googling to find a solution. After a lot of time spent on-line I've managed to find only one post on this topic, but unfortunately I never managed to find it again and I haven't bookmarked it at the time I've visited it. The main point of mentioning this is that I'm not the first nor the only one with this issue which includes L702x, nVidia drivers and Firefox Toolbar. I remember poster got an answer from nVidia's tech support saying its not their drivers fault, but I can only confirm the same thing as poster that they are the reason for this issue to occur.

How to reconnect (and change your IP) even if your ISP doesn't allow you to

OK, in this post I'm going to explain how you can stay anonymous while downloading with JDownloader and even more to it - at the same time be able to use JDownloader's reconnect feature. The best part of this whole process is that even if your ISP doesn't allow you to make a reconnection (you have a fixed IP or cannot access your modem/router), by following steps described below, you'll still be able to get JDownloader's (or any other application's) reconnect feature to work for you! And you know what this means - no more free user waiting time!

How to 'undo' closed Windows Explorer windows - (Update 2nd)

As I've already wrote about undo closing windows explorer's windows back here, now the time has come to do a little update on this topic, as I've finally found a solution that is free and fully supports Windows 7 and since it is still actively developed I guess it will support Windows 8 as soon as they become available. Solution's name is Listary and does the job of restoring closed Window Explorer windows just like it should. You can configure it to suite your needs and even buy a Pro version if you need it.

Change the default REF switch in Microsoft Word

Recently I was in a need to change how Microsoft Word uses (inserts) references to certain type of resource within document. Maybe you'll never need to do this, but this particular topic is something that Microsoft really can and should improve in any future version of it's word processing tool Word. If you're in a need to use any other form ie. to use just numbers to point out to some Table of Figure, not the full reference Table # or Figure #  or to change how equitation are referenced, than keep on reading  ...

How to apply a tablet screen protector with no bubbles

Well, recently I needed to apply screen protector on a tablet and as it usually is in real life - something you think you'll manage in a snap, turned out to be quite a challenge. I've applied several screen protectors so far, but only on smart-phones, and based on such experience I thought (quite naive) it will be quite easy with tablet too. It turned out my believes completely failed on me since I just couldn't stand seeing those small dust particles under protector. Even there were only few of them, they bothered me. The bottom line is that this process is not too hard to perform, but it rather requires some (more or less depending on other skills you might have) practice.

How to open command prompt from folder you're currently browsing (in Windows OS)

If for any reason you ever had to instantly open command prompt from folder you're currently browsing using Windows Explorer (ie. for testing of new great batch script you've just created), you know this procedure required you to:
1st) open command prompt (procedure is dependent regarding Windows OS version you're using) and 2nd) to copy and paste path to desired folder in a very "intuitive" way to just opened (legacy) MS-DOS command prompt, because it will (of course) always open in predefined folder which in most cases is far away from the folder you need to be in.

If all this sounds familiar to you, I have some good news - the time has come to finally relax and to let a very simple and cool Windows shell extension take it from now on. This cool utility is called ContextConsole Shell Extension and will enable you to open command prompt from any folder you're currently browsing. Definitely a must have extension!

reCAPTCHA solving methods - Update (2nd)

This post became obsolete, please refer to this post for more informations.

If you've been here before, you might have noticed that I've already written about automation of CAPTCHA solving and applicable methods in this post and afterwards I also wrote about some updates in this post. Well since then some time has passed and some methods became more popular than other so I thought the time has come to make a quick update again.
