Change the default REF switch in Microsoft Word

Recently I was in a need to change how Microsoft Word uses (inserts) references to certain type of resource within document. Maybe you'll never need to do this, but this particular topic is something that Microsoft really can and should improve in any future version of it's word processing tool Word. If you're in a need to use any other form ie. to use just numbers to point out to some Table of Figure, not the full reference Table # or Figure #  or to change how equitation are referenced, than keep on reading  ...

As with any other thing I googl'd and actually found out very few accurate or better to say up-to-date tutorials on how this can be done. The one I found to be working can be found here.
General idea to get the whole thing working is to edit inserted reference in a Word document by right clicking on it and selecting 'Toggle Field Codes' in pop-up menu (Word 2010). Afterwards instead of reference text you should see something like this:
{ REF _Ref308773177 \h } and then if you change it to look like { REF _Ref308773177 \# 0;0 \h } you should get just reference number instead of full reference text.
I will not describe the trick as it is clearly described in linked post. The good thing is that explained trick also works with referencing to equitations. I hope this will help you out as it did to me.

If you found this post to be useful please consider encouraging me to keep up the good work. You can easily do it by signing up with Copy.com cloud storage provider. Just click here and you will get 15GB + 5GB for following my link absolutely FREE. This way I'll get 5GB too.
