How to install Chrome extension (.crx) from local disk

Since Chrome 21 was introduced users are no longer allowed to install extensions from local disk and all you'll get is a message saying extensions can only be installed from the Chrome Web Store. Well nice security feature, but as all other good thing this one has a drawback too which can luckily be fixed on a very easy way.

Free alternatives to commercial NAS solutions

In one of my previous posts I've wrote about few things to watch for when buying your first NAS device. But what I haven't described in detail is that you don't always need to buy a new NAS, there is a way to turn your old (OK not that old) desktop PC into fully featured NAS and all that for FREE!

Few tips for choosing appropriate NAS solution (for newbies)

In this post I'll share few basic tips for all newbies looking out to get into the world of NASes for the first time. I'd be more than grateful if I had an opportunity to get few basic tips what to observe when buying an NAS for the first time. So just to make things clear now - this is a newbie oriented post, but who knows maybe some experienced user might find it useful too. Also information presented here are intended for home users mostly, but can be useful for small and home offices (SoHo) too. Most of you probably heard of NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems and why are they so handy. When I for the first time decided to buy NAS I was doing it with two main objectives - for DATA BACKUP and MEDIA STREAMING. Maybe the second option was even more important to me.

Text ASCII Art Generators

Well from time to time I actually tend to catch myself just wondering around Internet's vast space without any clear intention nor any idea what I'll bump into. In one of my such states of wondering I came across a tool which is generating old cool ASCII text art. For all of us who had a chance of running programs from pure black (OK, there were colors, right - you do remember 4dos!?) DOS prompt, or at least for me ASCII text art was always a bit fascinating thing.

How to comment lines in DOS batch scripts

Although there is no real DOS prompt in Microsoft Windows operating systems since Vista, rather just it's emulation, don't let if trick you - DOS prompt still represents great and valuable resource for making scripts (which sometimes can grow quite in size and be quite complex) with wide application scope. But in this process you'll for sure be experimenting with various commands and before you'll accomplish your desired goal you'll probably want to (un)comment certail lines of code.

Is there a perfect (free) anti-virus and firewall protection?

For a long time I was ESET fan and sticked to their ESET Security Suite. But, I wanted to explore some more and switched over to Bitdefender Total Security. Few days ago I've had enough of it and decided it was the right time to move on and explore further beyond.

How to automatically close various Windows application's dialogs

Recently I started to search for a program (application) which would help me to nicely and quietly get rid of certain dialogs produced by free versions of certain Windows applications. I'll stay low this time and not explicitly name those applications - they're yours to discover ,-). So here is a quick review of what I've found and how they work. Of course that free versions are preferred over paid ones, so I'll start with them. And just one note before I continue - this post's main focus is NOT about closing various Internet browser's windows opened by various ads, but could be used it this manner if you configure them properly.
